Types of Face Lifting

Tighten Skin through FaceliftTightening the face, commonly referred to as the popular face lift, is one of the most popular and common aesthetic corrections. Face corrections are the most common, but neck and forehead are also regular occurrences. There are many surgical procedures and techniques that can be used for face, neck, and forehead tightening. Face lifts most commonly remove excess skin on the face with optional subcutaneous tissue removal and general formation of the younger look. It is usually done in combination with eyelid correction or some other aesthetic intervention of the face.
SMAS facelift and tightening refers to the layer of the face which is made of special ligaments which overlay the fat tissue in the cheeks and therefore, maintain their natural contours despite gravity fighting against it. Everything that was later added on to this type of face lift evolved into two types of skin tightening:
Deep plane face lift – This type of skin tightening points to deep layer corrections of the face and its tissue. The goal of this subtype of face lift is a more detailed correction of contours of the nasolabial flap. It differs from previous types in that fat tissue in the cheeks is released and some muscles are removed from the bone. This technique increases facial nerve damage if this procedure is done by an unqualified surgeon.
• Composite facelift – implies mobilization and repositioning subcutaneous tissue of larger scale than the previous two types of facial skin tightening.
A mid-face lift is a type of tightening which is mostly used for cheeks and the flat part of the face. This type gives way to a look that can be described as muscular and more pronounced. This type of facelift is recommended for patients with low hanging and sagging skin, especially in the neck region. In this situation, it is possible to completely avoid skin tightening that is a more drastic procedure. The surgeon makes an incision in the inner side of the cheek and in the hair. This way is the most practical and the patient cannot see the scars. This also allows for a better performance of the act when the contours of the nose and lips and a roundedness of certain parts of the face are achieved.
A mini facelift is the least invasive type of face tightening. It has the same effects as a Mid-face lift but with one difference in that, the skin of the neck is not touched. Therefore, this is useful for people who have smaller signs of aging or those that are aging prematurely.
A thread lift is a type of face lift that is a less invasive surgical option which removes smaller corrections such wrinkly eyelids, around the eye, forehead and nasolabial fold. This type of face lift is regularly done in local anesthesia and there are practically no stitches. Special threads are used to keep the face tightened. It is not recommended in the long run because after a couple years these threads can be depicted and seen. Complications are minor.
There are other types of facelift that vary from complete removal of face tissue from the bone and lifting the whole tissue in a better position. This type is invasive and differs in that face swelling lasts longer. There is also a skin only tightening of the face skin where the subcutaneous tissue is not touched. It is less serious procedure but the effects are not long term.
Regardless of the type of face lift that the surgeon deems to be the best option, patients will be given all the necessary information. As always, choosing the right surgeon, one that instills belief, is the key.
