Different Types Of Breast Lifts

Women consider plastic surgery for a variety of reasons.  Whether the choice is based on increasing one’s self-confidence or is a revision surgery because of a medical condition, plastic surgery can offer great benefits.  The results can be life-changing.  A Breast Lift (or Mastopexy) is a common procedure completed that elevates the breasts to a more appropriate position.  It creates a more contoured look while removing excess skin.  It can provide a woman with that youthful appearance and shape that is so commonly desired.  There are many different types of Breast Lifts including:  Crescent, Benelli, “Lollipop” Lift, and “Anchor” Breast Lift.  Each type of Breast Lift can offer different benefits for each breast type.  Let’s evaluate the different types of lifts and who will benefit from each type.

Patient Evaluation

Each patient is individually evaluated by the Plastic Surgeon.  During this evaluation, a physical examination of the breasts will occur.  The surgeon will do multiple measurements and ask about breast changes, as well as desires. He or she is evaluating overall symmetry, sagging (ptosis), and whether there is excess skin or breast tissue. After the physician has evaluated the patient and determined that the patient has met the criteria to indicate a Breast Lift is needed, then the next step is to determine which type of Breast Lift is appropriate.

Different Types Of Breast Lifts

Crescent Breast Lift

The Crescent Lift is the least invasive of all the Breast Lifts.  It is appropriate for women who need only a minor lift.  The physician examines the patient and based on the following criteria would recommend the Crescent Lift as the appropriate Breast Lift:  minor sagging of the breasts and the nipples point forward.  If these criteria are met, then this is most likely the appropriate form of Breast Lift.  The benefits of this particular lift is there is minimal scarring because of the location of the incision.  The incision occurs around a portion of the upper areolas.

Benelli Breast Lift

The Benelli Lift is appropriate for women who notice slight sagging of the breasts and nipple asymmetry.  The physician will examine the patient and upon evaluation of the breasts will determine if the Benelli Lift is appropriate for your individual case.  The benefits of this particular lift is there is minimal scarring because of the location of the incision.  The incision is also made around the areolas.

“Lollipop” Breast Lift

The Lollipop Lift is appropriate for women who experience a moderate among of sagging of the breasts.  The nipples actually point downward.  Because the nipples are pointing downward, it is a clear indication that a Breast Lift is needed.  The Lollipop Lift provides great results.  It removes sagging tissue and skin, thus providing a tightened, repositioned and contoured breasts.  The nipples are also repositioned so that they are in the appropriate anatomic location.   Because this is a surgical procedure that is removing tissue and tightening skin, there is some noticeable scarring from the incision site.  For specific images regarding this type of Breast Lift, please speak with your Plastic Surgeon.

Anchor Breast Lift

The Anchor Breast Lift is the most invasive type of Breast Lift.  It is needed when there is a severe amount of breast sagging.  The nipples point downward.  During this procedure, breast tissue and skin are removed to create a tightened and contoured result.  The nipples are also repositioned so that they are in the appropriate anatomic area.
